M. Jack Stone Sculpture M. Jack Stone Sculpture

This exclusive two-day exhibition will be held at the grounds of the artist’s home and studio in East Hampton, NY, featuring recent sculpture and early paintings and mixed media works. From references to Abstract Expressionism and nods to Cubism and Pop in the earlier work in two dimensions, the artist turns to pure, geometric abstraction in the current sculptures that defy gravity and rigidity with their whimsical yet maturely developed and composed forms.

An opportunity to view a number of recent paintings and mixed media works as well as some earlier pieces dating to the mid-90s, a majority of which were created in the artist’s Napeague studio space.
Works on view portray the evolution of this self-taught artist as he has drawn inspiration through the years from his immediate surroundings, those of the East End being in particular evidence though not exclusively the subject matter of his creative output. Music plays a tremendous role in how each piece evolves, evidenced in the dynamic interaction of textures, surface elements, and objects. Eschenberg has continually explored multiple mediums, also consistently employing found objects and unconventional materials. His graphic design background comes across in grid compositions that often include photographic elements, however there is a tension between this formal, linear approach and the more aggressive, expressionist, ’street art’ quality present throughout his entire artistic production.
